Wylie Police Department is inviting citizens interested in learning more about law enforcement to apply for the Citizens Police Academy, beginning March 7, 2019, and meeting every Thursday evening from 7 to 10 pm through May 23, 2019. Participants must live or work in Wylie and be age 18 or older. The class is limited to 15 participants, selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
The goal of the CPA is to foster a positive relationship between the community and the police department through training. WPD envisions that class members will gain an understanding of the operations of the police department; develop an awareness and appreciation of the various challenges and decisions police officers face daily; and participate in practical exercises that illustrate situations officers experience while on duty.
“Members of the Wylie Police Department are committed to strengthening relationships with the citizens we serve,” said Community Relations Officer Nuria Arroyo. “We urge everyone interested in learning more about police work to apply for this year’s CPA and experience the world of policing firsthand.”
Cost of the class is $25, which covers the price of a shirt, supplies, and graduation. For an application or for any questions, contact Arroyo at Nuria.Arroyo@WylieTexas.gov or 972-429-8019. Applications must be submitted by Jan. 31.
