Summer Events Planned for Adults 18+ at Wylie's Smith Library

Smith Public Library has a whole slate of free activities and programs planned for adults age 18 and older this summer.

Books and Bites: Saturday, June 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. Chat with authors and grab an autograph while enjoying snacks from Taste of Home. Titles will be available for purchase, or bring your own. Attending authors: Sara Rosett, Becky Wade, T. Jerome Miller, Alexia Gordon, Barb Han and Lorraine Heath.

Rock Painting: Tuesday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. Try out a new kind of social media. Come paint a rock. Place it around town (where allowed). When someone finds it, they post a photo to social media with a hashtag so people can track its whereabouts. Then, they either keep it, leave it, or place it somewhere else. Materials are provided, and registration is required.

Anime MeetUp: Saturday, June 30, at 1:30 p.m. Fans of anime age 17 and older may attend this meeting. Come talk, and sometimes watch, anime and discuss all things pop culture from Japan and neighboring lands.

Folded Book Art Workshop: Saturday, July 7, at 2 p.m. Learn how to fold book pages to create eye-catching decorations. Materials provided, and registration is required.

"Hamilton the Musical" Sing-Along: Tuesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m. Hamiltunes Dallas is looking for a few good Hamilfans to sing and rap the full musical work or be the adoring public and listen live. Registration is required.

Thursday Night Book Chat: June 14 and July 12 at 6:30 p.m. Our book talk for adults meets the second Thursday of the month. Copies of the book to be discussed are available at the Help Desk or on Overdrive. June's title is "The Rooster Bar," by John Grisham, and July's title is "The Versions of Us," by Laura Barnett.

Booked on Fridays Book Club: June 1 and July 13 at noon. Bring a lunch or snack to our book club and enjoy engrossing reads and good conversation. Meets the second Friday of the month. Copies of the book are available at the Help Desk or on Overdrive; the titles are the same as the Thursday Night Book Chat.
