Smith Library Hosts Pop Culture Miniseries

Wylie's Smith Library is hosting a Pop Culture Miniseries Sept. 5 - 11. Fans, age 17 and up, of cosplay, Asian pop culture, acting and comics are invited to express their fandom and celebrate hobbies during this week of free special events. All week, while supplies last, free comic book mystery bags will be given out at the Help Desk.

6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 5 -- Cosplay Prop Workshop. Learn tips and techniques that can be applied to a variety of costume props, including working with thermoplastic, and apply them by making a small prop. Materials are provided.

6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 -- Comic Creation Panel. Panel includes Joe Eisma, artist and co-creator for the Eisner-nominated "Morning Glories" series and artist for "Archie," DC Comics and comic universe Valiant; Mark Stokes, Telly Award-winning animator and creator of "Zombie Boy"; Brian Delaney, creator of "Silver Sparrow Comics" and the upcoming comic-novel hybrid, "Dochas: Birth of the Dragon Girl"; and Hector Rodriguez, creator of "Rio Bravo Comics" and "El Peso Hero."

1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 -- Anime MeetUp. Gather at the library to discuss all things anime and Asian pop culture; 3 p.m. -- Acting Workshop with Joel McDonald. Learn about character development, subtext, levels and tactics, and many more skills that will help actors work in competitive field.

6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 - Fairy and Figure Terrariums. Build a terrarium to showcase hobbies and collectibles. Terrarium materials provided; bring favorite 2- to 3-inch figures.
