There’s always something going on at Wylie’s Smith Public Library. Mark your calendar for these kids’ activities coming up in October and November.

LEGO League – Oct. 1 or 3 and Nov. 5 or 7, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Kids in grades one through four are invited to come build with the library’s Lego collection on a specific theme each month. They’ll read a book that explores the theme and inspires ideas for building. Cooperation and building on theme are encouraged. Age limits are strictly enforced; no parents or younger/older siblings please. Space is limited; register at the Children’s Desk. October’s theme is “It came from outer space.” November’s is “Yummy in my tummy.”

My Very Own Book Club – Oct. 9 or 11 and Nov. 13 or 15, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. First and second graders are encouraged to read the book of the month on their own time and then come to the meeting for a group reading, discussion, and a craft. Sign up at the Children’s Desk. Participation is limited, but all participants get a free copy of the book. October’s title is “The Rooster Who Would Not be Quiet,” by Carmen Agra Deedy, and November’s is “A Sick Day for Amos McGee,” by Philip Christian Stead.

3rd Grade Voyagers ClubOct. 17 and Nov. 14 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This is a learning club just for third graders. Each month, a different topic is explored and kids participate in a hands-on activity. Registered participants receive a challenge each month to prepare them for the scheduled activity. Register at the Children’s Desk to receive the challenge. Space is limited. October’s challenge is “Investigate Animal Skulls with a UTD Science Kit,” and November’s is “Decorate Mugs and Make Your Own Trail Mix.”

BeTween Book & Movie Club – Oct. 24 and Nov. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders are invited to discuss different books that have movie adaptations. They’ll read the book and watch the movie on their own, then come to the meeting to watch scenes from the movie, read excerpts from the book, discuss, and enjoy a snack. Sign up at the Children’s Desk; the first 50 kids to sign up get a free copy of the book. October’s title is “Coraline,” by Neil Gaiman, and November’s is “Holes,” by Louis Sachar.

Teen Book ClubOct. 3 and Nov. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. Sixth through 12th graders are invited to join the Teen Book Club. Snacks and drinks are provided. Stop by the Teen Room for more information and to register. October’s title is “A Taste for Monsters,” by Matthew Kirby, and November’s is “The Belles,” by Dhonielle Clayton.

Japanimation Club – Oct. 10 and Nov. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m.Sixth through 12th graders come geek out about all things anime and manga! No registration required.

Family Lego Build – Oct. 30 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Show off your creativity by building with the library’s Lego and Duplo sets. All ages welcome – no registration required. Kids 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
