Wylie's Smith Library Welcomes May With Interesting, Informative Events

Wylie's Smith Public Library offers several programs in May, featuring the opportunity to learn and socialize. There is no charge for any of these events.

Booked on Fridays meets May 10 at noon. Adults 18 and up are invited to bring lunch or a snack to this book club where the featured title, "An American Marriage," by Tayari Jones, will be discussed. Copies are available at the Help Desk or can be downloaded on Overdrive.

Fans of anime, manga and Asian pop culture, age 17 and up, are invited to an Anime MeetUp on Monday, May 13, at 6 p.m. This group meets bimonthly, and the May meeting is a chat session when participants will share their thoughts about what they're watching, reading, or playing.

Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m., it's (Sub)Urban Homesteading for 18 and up. Homesteading is the art of becoming self-sufficient on a property. This talk will cover the unique challenges and opportunities that suburban homesteading can bring, with specific focus on keeping chickens, managing a garden, and catching rainwater for irrigation, among other topics. Have you ever wondered about your family's background? Genealogy Boot Camp, Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., teaches tips and resources for discovering family history. Sessions will focus on death and burial records, military records, understanding DNA test results, and more. Document scanning services will also be available.
