RECIPE: Crockpot Maid Rite Copycat Hamburger

It seems we are always talking about food in the office, and was I stunned when Brady mentioned having a crockpot recipe for a Maid-Rite sandwich. Maid-Rite sandwiches are popular in the midwest, and I have personally had them in a small town — Quincy, Illinois — and loved them. It's a loose meat sandwich, but not really a sloppy joe, that is seasoned perfectly and just "made right." I can't explain it, but you just need to try it. Your kids will love them.

Brady's Recipe for Maid Rite Sandwich

  • 3 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 2 tbs brown sugar
  • 2 tbs apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbs Worcesterschire sauce
  • 1 tbs soy sauce
  • Hamburger Buns - Don't go fancy
  • Pickles
  • Mustard

Add the first nine ingredients to the crockpot and stir together to break up the ground beef.

Cook on high for 4 hours. Check on occassionaly to keep the beef from clumping together. Remember, it is a loose meat sandwich.

Serve on hamburger buns and add mustard, pickle, mayo, ketchup as desired. Some add cheese, but give it a zap in the microwave to melt it a little.
