City of Wylie Animal Services is joining animal shelters across the country to host a Clear the Shelters Day pet adoption event Saturday, July 23, from 10 am to 5 pm. The shelter is waiving adoption fees, and all adoptable animals will have been spayed or neutered, have had all vaccines, have a microchip, have been dewormed, and have been treated with flea and tick eradication and prevention medicine.

This year, animals will be sent to their new homes with extra goodies, including gift cards for $200 worth of preventive veterinary services, courtesy of VIP Petcare; $100 vet services gift cards, courtesy of East Plano Murphy Pet Hospital; a collar from the local ASPCA; and pet food courtesy of PetSmart.

Wylie Animal Control Supervisor Shelia Patton said that, although many area shelters are participating in the event, the extra donated goods and services make the Wylie event special. "We are looking forward to this year's Clear the Shelters Day, and we are so pleased to be able to offer the extra free items and gift cards so new owners can continue to take great care of their new four-legged family members. We will open the doors at 10 am, and we can't wait to see all the happy faces and wagging tails as these sweet animals head for their forever homes!"

More than 50 North Texas shelters are scheduled to participate in the Clear the Shelters event. Organizers said it's the largest adoption effort ever held in the area, and they hope it will be the largest multi-city, multi-county adoption event in the U.S.

Patton noted that, for the last three years, Wylie was the first North Texas shelter to clear its cages. "We hope to make it three in a row!"

Complimentary drinks and snacks will be provided by Cox Elementary School.

Wylie Animal Services is located at 949A Hensley Ln. Visitors must be at least 18 years old with valid ID to adopt.
