Addison Duke waits for the Sorting Hat to choose her house.

Wylie's Smith Public Library hosted a celebration in honor of Harry Potter's birthday July 28, with a costume contest, games, trivia, prizes and crafts.

Kids (and their adults) were encouraged to dress as a favorite character or wear their finest robes for a costume contest. Contest winners were Kimber Cato, 12, dressed as Hagrid and holding a birthday cake for Harry; Alexa Houle, 11, in costume as Luna Lovegood; and Katelynn Woody, dressed as Sirius Black -- when he's a wolf. Muggles, witches and wizards all had a chance to get sorted into their Hogwarts house by the Sorting Hat, they visited a store where their wands chose them, and they made house ties and owl puppets. Representatives from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center were on hand to turn the Storytime room into an "owlery" where kids could post letters for the owls to "deliver." They also competed in a trivia game complete with a scavenger hunt.

Summer Reading Club activities are winding down at the library; the last day to turn in reading logs for a chance to win prizes is Aug. 5.
