Magic Festival to Culminate in ‘Night of Wonder’

Wylie Hosts Week-Long Celebration of Magic, Illusion

The City of Wylie, in conjunction with the Dallas Magic Clubs, proudly presents National Magic Week Oct. 25 – 29, culminating in “Night of Wonder,” a family-friendly gala featuring seven award-winning illusion acts. The show is Thursday, Oct. 29, 7:30 pm, at First Baptist Church Wylie Event Center, 200 N. Ballard Ave. in historic downtown Wylie.

Headlining “Night of Wonder” is magician Trigg Watson, who recently performed on the CW’s Penn & Teller’s "Fool Us” and can be seen on Pop TV’s “Don’t Blink.” Watson was named 2015 Dallas Magician of the Year and 2013 Dallas Performing Artist of the Year by Indie Arts Awards. He was the highest-scoring American magician at the World Magic Contest in Las Vegas at only 25 years of age.

Wylie Mayor Eric Hogue, also an accomplished magician, will act as master of ceremonies for “Night of Wonder.” A member of the Society of American Magicians, the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Dallas Magic Clubs, Hogue received a presidential citation from the SAM for his efforts that resulted in magic being recognized as an art by the United States Congress.

Tickets for “Night of Wonder” are $10 and can be purchased online at www.themagicofwylie.com .

Other activities include Mayor Hogue’s National Magic Week proclamation on the steps of the Brown House at 2 pm Sunday, Oct. 25, and a séance at 96° West Winery, Monday, Oct. 26,  at 7 and 9 pm. Tickets for the séance are available for purchase at the winery for $30. There will be a sponsor-only Parlor Magic Show featuring Magic Castle favorite Jared Kopf at the Brown House Tuesday, Oct. 27, 8 pm. Magicians will perform tableside in Ballard Avenue restaurants Monday – Wednesday, Oct. 26 – 28, from 5 pm until closing. Street magicians will perform tricks on Ballard Avenue during Boo on Ballard, the annual trick-or-treat event sponsored by the Wylie Downtown Merchants Association and the City of Wylie, Thursday, Oct. 29, 6 to 8 pm.

The International Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians combined to form The Dallas Magic Clubs. Legendary illusionist Harry Houdini personally presented the club’s charter in 1924. For more about the Dallas Magic Clubs, visit Dallasmagic.org.
