City of Wylie Animal Services is joining animal shelters across the country to host a Clear the Shelters Day pet adoption event Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9:30 am until the shelter is clear.
The shelter is waiving adoption fees, and all adoptable animals will have been spayed or neutered, have had all vaccines, have a microchip, have been dewormed, and have been treated with flea and tick eradication and preventive medicine.
Animals will be sent to their new homes with extra goodies, including food samples and other gifts from Petco and over $200 worth of free veterinary services from VIP Petcare, plus a 20-percent off coupon from any VIP Petcare-operated clinic, and other surprises.
Wylie Animal Control Supervisor Shelia Patton said, "We are looking forward to this year's Clear the Shelters Day! We will open the doors at 9:30 am, and we can't wait to see all the happy faces and wagging tails as these sweet animals head for their forever homes!"
More than 60 shelters in North Texas are scheduled to participate in the Clear the Shelters event. Organizers said it's the largest adoption effort held in the area, and they hope it will be the largest multi-city, multi-county adoption event in the country. Last year, Wylie placed 47 animals in new homes, North Texans adopted more than 7,100 pets, and there were more than 53,000 adoptions nationwide.
Members of Girl Scout Troop 7749 will be on hand to give out free drinks and snacks, compliments of the City of Wylie.
Patton noted that, for the last three years, Wylie was the first North Texas shelter to clear its cages. "We hope to make it four in a row!" she said.
Visitors must be at least 18 years old with valid ID to adopt.
