Wylie Animal Services joins animal shelters across the country to host Clear the Shelters Day pet adoption event Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9:30 a.m. until the shelter is clear.
On that day, the shelter is waiving adoption fees, and all adoptable animals will have been spayed or neutered, have had all vaccines, have a microchip, have been dewormed, and have been treated with flea and tick eradication and preventive medicine.
This year's Clear the Shelter Day has two national sponsors: Hill's Pet Nutrition and Cat's Pride. Local sponsor Vetoquinol returns this year as well.
Wylie Animal Control Supervisor Shelia Patton said, "We will open the doors at 9:30 a.m., and we can't wait to see all the happy faces and wagging tails as these sweet animals head for their forever homes!"
On Clear the Shelters Day 2017, over 30,800 animals found new homes. Over the course of the month-long campaign leading up to the event, local shelters and rescue facilities connected over 80,000 animals with new families across the country.
Patton noted that, for the last four years, Wylie has been able to clear the shelter of all adoptable pets. "We hope to make it five in a row!"
Volunteers will be on hand to give out free drinks and snacks, compliments of the City of Wylie.
Visitors must be at least 18 years old with valid ID to adopt. For more information, call 972-442-5268, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit WylieTexas.gov/adopt.
