Wylie will be wide awake June 30, when the City of Wylie, Bluegrass Heritage Foundation, and the Wylie Downtown Merchants Association present the sixth annual Bluegrass on Ballard in historic downtown Wylie. The free event begins at 10 a.m. with over 100 booths featuring art, crafts, unique items and other vendors in Olde City Park, pony rides, a 200-vehicle car show (with prizes awarded in several categories), starting at 4 p.m., and the chili cook-off starting at 2 p.m. The music is the star of the show, and this year's lineup includes world-class bluegrass bands Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band, Texas & Tennessee, The Po' Ramblin' Boys, The Herrins, Salt Creek, and Pine Island Station. The stage is in shady Olde City Park, and the music starts at 2 p.m., so bring a lawn chair and plan to stay all evening. Musicians of all skill levels are invited to bring their instruments and jam with the pros in the park, on the street, and in the shops and restaurants on Ballard Avenue.
